assimilation and accomodation

http://youtu.be/3-A9SgbAK5I
During the past two weeks of school, in ever class seems like we are talking about either assimilation or accommodation. Discussing these two topics were and still are very confusing. Jean Piaget introduced these concepts while studying the psychology of early aged children. Assimilation means to take in new information and incorporate them into our existing ideas. On the other hand Accommodation means to alter ones existing schema as a result of new information.

  1. They can have different meanings for student behaviors and IEPs as well--should the learner assimilate into a mainstream classroom or be accommodated with special services?
